Revolução de Afetos

The Challenge: Designing a Path through Polarization

Brazil’s digital landscape is heavily scarred by political radicalization. Avaaz launched the ‘Revolução de Afetos’ podcast, hosted by Nana Queiroz and Gabriela Leite, to navigate this hostility and rebuild social ties. The project required a brand that captured the revolutionary strength needed to mend a fractured society.

The Medium and the Message: Acoustic Intimacy

We anchored this project in the podcast format because sound is the richest sense for cultivating identity and deep connection. Drawing on the idea of shared spheres, audio creates a protective, intimate bubble for the listener. Hearing a voice bypasses the algorithmic noise and builds a genuine micro-community. This shared acoustic tuning space fosters the vulnerability required has potential to heal from radicalization on the internet long tail.

The Visual Identity: Pop-Political Semiotics

The design language translates this intimate audio experience into a vibrant, high-stakes aesthetic:

  • The Symbol: The logo features a 3D-rendered fist holding the heart-shaped lead arrow of Anteros, the Greek god who could make unrequited passion, requited. This combination represents an active defense of empathy. The fist acts as a barrier to stop the cycle of Orwellian “Two Minutes Hate” sessions mediated by Big Tech algorithmic profit over engagement triggered by emotional distress.
  • The Palette: The background uses a splat-effect with electric yellow and lime green. The yellow brings alertness and curiosity. The lime green captures the acidic political ambient of Brazil and reflects the activist movement working to mend the pieces of our society.
  • The Studio Atmosphere: To ground the bright branding in a modern format, the vibrant yellow contrasts with deep violet and magenta studio lighting. This combination mirrors the intense resignification of recovering from polarization.
  • Typography & Motion: Bold, rounded 3D lettering with pink and light blue outlines creates a pop-activist aesthetic. The splatter motif in the motion graphics symbolizes new ideas breaking into a stale environment.

Strategic Impact: Reaching the National Top 20

  • Market Success: The disruptive visual strategy combined with high-level guests propelled the show into the cultural zeitgeist. It officially became one of the 16 most listened-to podcasts in Brazil.
  • A Complete Ecosystem: I designed a comprehensive visual system spanning from polaroid-style social media grids for guest announcements to YouTube thumbnails, physical table-tents, and branded mugs.

What this project says about me as a Professional:

  • Community Architect: I understand how to use media and design to build protective, intimate spaces for audiences to connect deeply over difficult subjects.
  • Semiotics as Strategy: I build visual vocabularies that translate complex social concepts into accessible art. Merging the fist of resistance with the arrow of Anteros created a clear symbol for a new kind of activism.
  • Market-Proven Design: Reaching the top 16 in a highly competitive market proves this specific aesthetic resonates with the public at scale.
